This book was the first book we bought and we are still using today, we still find this to be the best training book out there at the moment. The book is called 'Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy' by Steve Mann. Steve is a professional dog trainer and behaviourist for over 30 years.. He is the founder of the 'Institute of Modern Dog Trainers' which is the leading body for trainers and behaviourists worldwide.

Steve has appeared on Lorraine Kelly’s morning show several times, during this period he was training up her new pooch.

​

This is an excellent book which takes you from the very basics on how to look after and train your puppy. It is written so everyone from novices right up to an expert will understand - taking you through all the training tips you will need, step by step. Steve backs this up with stories and humour we can all relate to when it comes to bad behaviour of our puppy.

 

The book includes colour photographs to explain some of the main points. This is a must read for all new dog owners.

Puppy Bible - Claire Arrowsmith & Alison Smith

 

Our second book is called the 'Puppy Bible' by Claire Arrowsmith & Alison Smith. This book compliments the ‘Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy’ book and is split into two parts. These two Canadian authors make raising a puppy easy with this week-by-week guide which tells you what to do, when to do it and what to look out for in the first six months of your dog's life.

 

There is also a weekly countdown before your puppy is born as well as information on caring for older puppies from 6 months onwards.

The second part of the book is the ‘Puppy Encyclopedia’ and provides detailed information that will help you answer any question you might have about looking after your puppy. It features in-depth insight into every aspect of puppy care, including first aid.

Total Recall - Pippa Mattinson

 

Our third book is the first of two written by the world renowned gun dog trainer and author Pippa Mattinson. The book is called ‘Total Recall’. This book is the definitive dog and puppy training manual - easy to read and designed to help all dog owners with one simple but overwhelming problem: their dog won't come back when they call him or her! If this sounds like you, then this is the best book currently out there to get your pooch back every time.

The book is divided into three parts starting off with the Preparation. It is packed with all the information you will need in order to prepare and support you and your dog as you work through the training programme. Our fourth book and the second by Pippa Mattinson is ‘The Happy Puppy’. Pippa is a dog training specialist and is the founder of the UK’s national gundog graded training scheme, and a director of the Gundog Trust. 

 

The book is well laid out, easy to follow and is split into three parts. It starts off with preparing the house and garden before the puppy arrives, to introducing your new friend to all the family, including children and other animals.

 

The second section is all about living with your puppy and tells you everything you need to know about training and caring for your new puppy.
